Old Guys Rule Quartet sings music arranged in the Barbershop style.  We sing four part  a-cappella harmony.  We sing songs made popular by individual and group artists as far back as the 1920's through today. Songs that bring back fond memories, gospel songs, and songs from popular musicals.  Songs you will want to sing along to and go home with a smile and warm glow.

Old Guys Rule Quartet was formed in March of 2011.  Dick Zarfos (tenor), Hank Stromenger (bass), Bob Mitchell (lead) and Jim Woods (Baritone) are all members of the Sarasota Chorus of the Keys.  The quartet has a combined experience of over 100 years in Barbershop Quartet Singing.

Meet the "Old Guys"

II started singing in the barber shop style in 1989 and continue to delight in the hobby.  OLD GUYS RULE is my sixth registered quartet.  In May of 1999 I was an originating member and  continue to perform with the latest iteration of The Best of Times, which finished as high as 4th in Sunshine District competition. I've enjoyed singing with Sunshine quartets Somethin’ Else,  Swing Street and Talk of the Town. I sang Lead in The Usetacould Four, North Carolina Harmony Brigade championship quartet in 2011. I have competed 5 times internationally with Tampa’s Heralds of Harmony. I am an active member of Sarasota Chorus of the Keys where I was co-director in 1999.

I started barbershopping in York, PA in 1984.  I sang with the York White Rose Chorus and later with the Lancaster, Pa Red Rose Chorus.  I sang Baritone with the Two County Four quartet for 8 years, followed by the Evening Mist quartet for another 8 years.  In 2003 I moved to Sarasota, FL and joined the Sarasota Chorus of the Keys.  I have song in five registered quartets including Old Guys Rule.

I started barbershopping in Iowa in 1972  ( wish it had been sooner) and have competed with many quartets including Harmony Heritage, Capitol Accord and Sound Exchange. With OLD GUYS RULE I'm feeling comfortable in my "seniorhood" and look forward to proving that old dogs can learn new tricks.

I started sing Barbershop in 1967 in Winter Haven, FL.  I've sung in several choruses (Winter Haven, Sarasota, Tampa, Tallahassee) and 8-10 quartets over the years.  Best quartet competition results have been Sunshine District Senior Champions in 1999 (ASQ) and 2011 (OLD GUYS RULE), 4th Place District with The Best of Times (1993?), and 11th place (IN THE WORLD) in 2011 at the BHS International Competition with OLD GUYS RULE!!! Directed the Tallahasse Chapter 1987-91, was BOTY for the Tallahassee (1989) and the Tampa Chapters (1992). Competed with the Tampa Chorus at BHS International Competition nine times, best finish, 8th. Have held several offices at the chapter level and currently serve as Board Member at Large for the Sunshine District. Also serve as a Harold Hill for BHS.
